I just wanted to say that I cleaned my IAC with carb spray and it worked good for about a week. I then cleaned it again and then soaked it with WD40 wile working the valve plunger with a small screw driver. It has been working great ever since.
I just cleaned my IAC and throttle body on my Bronco II with STP throttle body cleaner and the truck runs like brand new. It hadn't been cleaned in 90,000 miles so I guess it was due. I highly recommend doing this more frequently than I did. The STP just ate the black crud right off.
Ok, I have never cleaned these parts that go into the depths of the mighty engine. Can you just remove the parts and not worry about the spray throwing things into the engine? I want to clean my EGR ports and Throttle body on my 1997 Ford F-150/ 4.6 L. I know I can take things apart and put them together, but don't want to spray "crud" into the engine.
You need to remove the IAC to clean it. You can't actually get into it to clean in unless you remove it.
Carb cleaner spray inside the engine wont hurt anything but you dont really want to be blowing junk into it.
I'm picking up my new IAC this evening from Autozone. $44.99 plus tax. And,the parts guy I deal with at my local Ford dealership said it was a good deal and recommended I get it too!
I had the same problem with my truck, it would start, then stall. I cleaned the IAC with electrical contact cleaner, now it is workig great. It has been 2 weeks, so time will tell if cleaning will be a good fix. I did not move the plunger while cleaning, i was afraid to damage it.
Well I cleaned inside the EGR valve and the Throttle body area. That was two weeks ago and I thought I was all great. The light was off, no more p401 codes. Now tonight I am going fishing and the dang light came back on. I'll have to wait until tommorow or the next day to get the info on the light code.
I'll keep you all posted.. Just think I never had this much trouble with my Dodge Dakota.
yeah, but just about anything thats made by dodge is only worth about 70,000 before it starts falling apart, and thats if you are lucky. stick with ford. they are the toughest trucks built
