cleaning IAC valve

in a previous post, concerning my high idle problems at each startup
was told to clean the IAC valve. exactly what is the procedure for cleaning, and what do i use? thanks!!!

Ive always used carb cleaner. That's what was told to me and ive always achieved good results with it.

carb clean works great but make sure on the solenoid part use a q-tip to clean the inner shaft that moves the actual valve. On the the valve itself I would give it a good heavy dose and repeat until all the gunk and carbon comes out. Made the mistake of getting liquid in the solenoid part, caused me to open the wallet for a new one (not cheap!)
