I have recently started hearing/feeling a clunk in the drivers-side front wheel/axle area. (could be passenger-side, but I think it is driver-side). It only happens if the truck has just been started, put in drive, and driven less than 100 yards. It doesn't happen while driving (except as noted earlier) and only happens once in a while. I don't know if I could repeat the clunk, its kind of like shooting craps. Any ideas/suggestions?
wow what a small world dbalke i live in Mont Vernon NH as far as your problem i would just get someone to walk/run along side of the truck while you try drive and see if it makes the sound.

I'm having a similar problem with mine. It started like that and has progressivly gotten worse, I havent figured it out yet, waiting for it to get above zero before I crawl under this thing.
Does it ONLY happen when the truck has been sitting and is cold? My 03 250SD does it when I first move in the morning, or after my evening shift and it has been very cold.
I think my 2001 F150 used to do the same thing. Temp. thing..
Thats how mine started, now it makes the same clunking sound when I hit bumps, start moving or stop moving. I'm guessing a bad bushing on the sway bar...
My 2000 f250 cc has the clunking in the passenger side. Very noticeable on rough roads, but only on smaller bumps. I have checked steering links, ball joints, shocks and mounts, spring u-bolts, front axle play,spindle/rotors,swaybar bushings, trans and engine mounts, body mounts, etc. and so on and so on. Can't find a damn thing loose! It is driving me crazy!
There are many posts in many forums about the mysterious clunk. God, I hope somebody saves us all soon. I probably could (but wouldn't want to) live with it if I knew for sure it wasn't something about to fall off and cause a crash.
sometimes it happens when it is warm. usually its when its cold, but sometimes if I park it, shut it off, and come back after a half hour or so, it happens. like I said before, though, it doesn't happen at all if I have been driving for a while, only when I first start off. bumps don't cause it to happen either.
It is the air vent door under the glove compartment. It operates off of vacum. When the engine is off the vacum presure decreases and allows the door to become partially open or closed. The cluck is the door slamming back closed or open once full vacum is regained when the engine is started.
