Help - I located a new 03 F-250 6.0 with a date of 11/18/02 at the bottom of the window sticker. Can anyone tell me if this could be a "bad" engine or if the problems started with the early '03 builds? Also any estimates on gas mileage would be helpful. I've searched a long time for a reg cab 4x4 with the new diesel so I hope it's the one but after reading about all the problems I'd sure like some opinions.
ROcky,
This is one of the earliest engines. May be ok, but has the C94 injectors. I would imagine, the updates have been done, if it is a good dealer. But you still run the risk, with the C94 of fuel in the oil. Many have been running fine, but some have had MAJOR problems. IF you decide to buy this, buy the longest extended warranty, or better yet tell the dealer he has to throw it in, if he wants to unload this truck. Also make sure you get at least double off, of what you would expect off a left over vehicle. That way you might feel better if something goes wrong.
Take it for a ride, a long ride. IF it still has pilot injection, the dealer did nothing. If it runs GREAT, it may not once they get done with the dealer prep, if they do it the way they are supposed to. I'd make them prep it and take another ride before you sign on the rather expensive dotted line.
In the end, it is up to you. Might be a GREAT truck, then again..... Good luck with your decision.
Lariat
Run!!!!!! Leave that sucker where it lies;no incentive, bargin price is worth the hassles of MAYBE getting a LEMON buy a later 04 and feel pleased with knowing someone else got that rolling crap-shoot. My 03 4x4 X is laying dead in the dealer this time going on 21 days; 83 days total ; you don't need to risk this.my buddies own later trucks and they all are happy.
