1995 Bronco XLT engine help

My 1995 Bronco 302 EFI at start up revs to about 1100 rpm. I think this is engine warm. If I rap the throttle it idles down. If I don't rap it it will come down own it's own. Sometimes if I start it and let it warm up it revs even higher then dies. I can crank it right back up and its find. I think maybe the TPS is going out. Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone know how to test TPS? Thanks

You can test your TPS by hooking up a voltmeter to the green wire at the plug (leave plug connected). Push a straight pin into the green wire and hook the voltmeter up to that. Now turn the key to the "run" position (not start) and go back to the voltmeter. You should have 0.8 - 1.0 volts with throttle shut and 4.0-5.0 volts at WOT. If voltages are correct and change continuously as you move the throttle, the TPS is OK.
Your problem sounds more like a problem with the IAC (Idle Air Control) Motor that is on the drivers side of your throttle body. Just a little valve that ports air around the throttle plate to control idle (kinda like an itty bitty throttle body). Remove it, clean it (a little squirt of WD-40 does wonder) and re-install it. If it is really gunked up, you should just replace it.
If operating correctly, your IAC should run the motor up to 1100-1200 RPM for approximately 45 seconds, then bring it back down to 650 and stay there.

Hope this helps.

Its attached to the Throttle Body, has two bolts that are pretty small, its on the right side (If your looking from front of truck looking back) has a chromish looking cylinder attached to it which is small, just take out two bolts and clean it, it also has some wires attached to it with a plug to disconnect it, but isn't necessary when cleaning it, hope this helps, I would take a picture, but camera isn't working, sorry!

Look in my gallery. There are some pictures of my Throttle Body taken when I upgraded to my BBK. The IAC is the cylinder with the two wire plug attached coming out of the right side (driver side) of the throttle body. When you unbolt it and look there are two holes. Inside the holes is a shaft that has a metering valve that passes air between the two holes. Clean it out, squirt in some WD 40, and make sure the plunger operates freely. As I said earlier, if it is really gunked up, just replace it.

There are more/better photos on my website.

Good luck.
