Rapping Rod?

Rapping Rod?
My 1974 Ford F250 with a 360 motor started making a rapping sound when you rev the motor up and down. Sounds like it's underneath, and I suspect a rod bearing. Can the oil pan be taken off without lifting the motor? The book seems to say you can. Thanks in advance.

I did this in my f100. It required some patience and lots of wiggling; getting it on was harder than off due to the oil pick-up. It goes under a splash shield off sorts that is built into the oil pan.

It really depends how young you are .. even on a lift it is a hard job with mixed results .. My approach at 63 would be line up a 390 and hope that the 360 hangs in there until you get the 390 ready to go in there .. If it is your daily driver then maybe you can find a 390 that's worth putting in right off .. The 390 will bolt right in to what you currently have ..Just make sure your buying a 390.. Just some examples
