Just a quick and simple question...whats the recommended ft.-lbs. of torque for the lug nuts? I'm trying to avoid the "whumpa whumpa whumpa" syndrome :P

<*{{{{>< (\o/)That is about all you can get with a breaker bar
isen't it?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Jun-02 AT 10:41 PM (EST)]Who torques the lugs?? I just buzz them with the impact. depending on the size I set it on 2 for most cars. 3 being the highest I set that for most trucks depending on the rim style. if its a steel rim I use 3. If its a aluminuim rim I use 2. I use 1 for the little bolts like the rear axel bolts.
EDIT>> don't most shops use impacts anyways and never bother with torqing.
Coming from the limited racing/track driving I've done there are a few things I've learned...
ALWAYS torque your lug nuts, equally
Check your brakes before, after and during if possible
Check your brakes with a tap before you need them
Unless you running for money, don't drive past 7/10's of your ability.
Ability means YOURS, not the cars.
Every driver should take a track course and get to experience spinning at 100MPH.
Things happen faster than you think they will
Your in control right up until you're not
If you do it right, you can make that 90 degree turn at 70MPH, if you do it wrong, you can't.
Tires have more hold than you think they can
At 150MPH, there is no peripheral vision.
NEVER lift off the throttle in a turn
When the instructor in the car starts grabbing handles and yelling, consider that an early warning system
Don't drive solo until you start grabbing handles and yelling slightly before your instructor does.
And never, NEVER turn your windshield wipers on, even by accident, on the back straight at Road Atlanta at 140MPH.
My very first time out in '99 at Road Atlanta I did $1000.00 in wear/damage to my '97 Porsche.
umm... new wiper arm for one.
new belts, btw, track driving with the AC on, bad idea.
new brakes all around, yeah, it eats them up.
new rear tires
Anyway, as for what started this pouring of crap you never cared to hear, if you don't torque your lug nuts evenly, the pressure exerted on them will cause vibration, wheel/rotor warpage, especially when hot, and lugs can pop off.
