>>what I said about gulliver being able to tell if the noise was his tires or not, had no intention of causing any friction here. I don't think Gulliver felt that way.
I didn't feel any friction. I think it was Gary who thought that there was.
Yeah...that's it...It's all his fault!
I was just trying to set the record straight that I was simply asking about his tires to gather more information. Of course, I still don't know what kind of tires he's running or at what pressure.
One thing I would suggest is to run it up to the speed in which the noise starts, then put it in neutral and coast with your foot off the gas to see if the noise changes at all.
I have a 2001 F-250 SC, 5.4L, and it is now making a whining noise with acceleration above 70 MPH. It has 15,000 miles on it, and it just started after I got it back from getting an 8 inch lift, 37 inch tires, and a change of gears to 4.56's. I am not sure if we have the same problem, but I assumed mine had something to do with the gear change.

I checked it again today, and it makes the noise in or out of overdrive. As a matter of fact you can't even tell when it goes into overdrive unless you watch the RPM's drop due to the noise. I am not sure if "whining" is the proper word, because it is more like a roar like from a large fan or something which sounds like it is coming from under the rear of the passenger compartment or farther back. It is directly related to the amount of acceleration under load, but not necessarily RPM's. It almost feels like it is just reaching it's top end speed and won't go much farther, but it definitely didn't do that before the lift/gear change. Prior to the mod, I could top out at the speed limiter (99 MPH) with no problem, but now I only get to about 90 MPH (82 indicated). It runs great, except for the roar above 70+ MPH which is annoying at the least. Anyone else have any ideas? I had different (larger V-10/diesel) yokes/u joints put on the driveshaft, and I had to have the driveshaft lengthened, but I don't think that is it either or else it would cause problems at all speeds.
Sorry I was away for so long, no signs of fuel starvation at all Rich. I guess I have to take it back to the dealer (horror).

It sounds like gear noise, the fact being the second you let off the gas it stops, and at the speed you say, that is very common. By chance did you pull a heavy trailer with it?

I have a 00 V-10 that had the same symptoms. I had it to the dealer four times. It sounded like a power steering pump or torque converter whine. Turns out it was the muffler. The baffles were loose. If you take a rubber mallet to the muffler, you will probably hear some rattling. I found some post farther back that had the same problem. Seems there were quite a few muffler problems.
Hope that is your problem. It sure fixed mine...now it's noise free.
I also have a 2000 f350 with a V-10. It produces the high pitch whinning sound only during an acceleration load at speeds above 60 mph. I posted a while back about this and checked everything that was suggested nothing worked. It only does it appling pressure to the gas pedal at high speeds. and it is coming from the rear end. I checked the differential fluid it is okay. I have just assumed it is normal since I have the 4.30 LS rear end and figure the gears are making the noise. What do you all think. The dealer has no idea and said it is normal. At least I am not alone in this.
