I posted a question and pic in the Transmission, Diff, Axle, and Tcase Forum about a problem that is not in any of the repair manuals. Please take a look.
I have since figured out that the rubber seal is called a "slinger" and is Spicer Part# 412-2. Now if I can get it off there without damaging the stud. More important is to find a new part.
I actually got the centering ball from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard for $12. I'm want to get old slinger off withoud damaging the stud since the rubber is so rotten.
O.K. I went by a driveline shop and the owner "gave" me a dust boot. He said it really isn't required that I cculd trim off the old rubber because the seal protects the center ball. I'm good to go. I found out about all kinds of Spicer drive shaft info on this project.
Hey, be carefull when replacing the double cardan centering ball. I had mine done before a trip from FL to WA and it failed on me in the mountains of Oregon. It destroyed my driveshaft and I had ended up spending $350 for a rebuilt driveshaft that I could have done my self for cheap. Oh by the way never get stuck in Baker City Oregon. Nice place, friendly people, but parts take 2 days to come in and cost an arm and leg.
