Any advantages when towing with 33ft 5er using a Taylor Wing?I can pick up a used aluminum wing and mounting rack that are in really good shape for $200.00.Was told 10% fuel savings and will also help with the bugs! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
ive never towed a 5er, but i would imagine that if its a high one, the wing will help out. I towed a trailer full of rowing boats coast to coast (look at gallery) and they were COVERE in bugs (no wing).
Oh, also, is the wing easily removable or does it fold down?
The Taylor Wing is easily removed by removing four small size bolts.
Didn't think to check the RV sites. Will check those sites mention. Thanks for the information.Any one else have any experience towing with wing?
I had the Taylor wing on my last Duallie. I didn't notice any real fuel improvement. What I did notice though is that the wind buffeting that you get behind the big trucks was really reduced. The entire rig seemed to be a lot more stable on the road. I went with a smaller, more cosmetic wing on this truck. I just didnt think that the diffrence was that great. Plus the bigger wing did really look out of place when I wasn't towing.
Not sure this helps, but it was my experience..
I pull a 37' and 45' 5er cross country on a regular basis and I can tell you that I get at least 10% better fuel mileage with the wing.
Truck and trailer are both lifted on the 37 footer and it really comes into play then.
Dont foget to take anything lighter than a spare tire out of the bed when you put the wing on, because it will get sucked out!
And it usually smacks the back window pretty hard. Ouch!
Thanks for the great information! Went ahead and bought the wing. I really like the looks when mounted on my truck. Didn't buy so much for any mileage savings, but more for the stability when towing.Every year it seems,on our annual trip to the Oregon dunes we end up fighting 30-40 mile head winds. I'am sure the wing will help. thanks again!
Sounds good!
Post some pics of your rig with the new wing and trailer when you get a chance.
I will get a pic with the wing on mine this weekend when we get back.
The gallery photos I have are done in my drive after I lifted the trailer w/o the wing...but I never laeve home without it any more.
