Ok, so I was talking to a friend who owns a small Blazer and he was making fun of my truck and said that it couldn't pull anything cause it is a Ford. Well I said ok, why don't you put your money where mouth is and said I would pull his Blazer aound the block. He has a little V6 so that is not what I'm worried about. I got to thinking and thought it would be cool to see if some kids from my school would be up to having a little contest. So I talked to a friend of mine, who has a Ford, he has a 74 with a 390 in 4x4 with a manual and a NP205.
Well he said he would be willing to do it and see if he could find some people to do it. Anyways, I wanted to see if I could pull him and he balked at my idea and I think it would be a nice fight.
What I was wondering was if I would have even a chance with my truck and if I did, where would I tie the end of the rope. I do have a ball on my truck but something is making me think that it wouldn't hold up with the two trucks. Thanks for the help...
Sounds like the pull-off is evenly matched, both strong trucks there. Use a seriously strong rope and make sure everybody stays outta the way of it incase it breaks. A ship's mooring line should be heavy enough for that.
Would it give him the upper hand if he also has a 4bbl Holley 750cfm?? I haven't done anything to my engine since I got it and I am not sure if the previous owner did much other than the rebuild of the carb.
All I have is a 14000 lb rope so I think I'll need a different rope but will the ball hold?
The truck with the best traction will be the winner here. Pickup trucks are relatively light in the back end and easily spin tires. Spinning tires will not win a pull-off.
Add some weight (think a load of firewood or the equivalent) to the bed of the Ford pickup and those tires will not spin at all. I doubt that any lightweight Blazer could budge the pickup with any decent amount of weight in it.
As mentioned before, double up on the rope and put a heavy blanket over it so that it doesn't act like a rubber band if it snaps before the little Blazer is dragged too far. I'd recommend 4LO for this event since with that amount of torque multiplication, the size of the engine means little.
Good luck!

PS: This is a good way to break various drive line components one the weaker vehicle...
I used to pulls all the time with my 83 bronco, I just put a chain around the trailer ball on my bumper, cause I had no hitch. I never in my life had maneged to pull a ford bumper off, yet.
I have ripped a bumper off of a surburban.
