rhodes lifter question, preload.

i am just getting ready to put fire to my freshly built 400. i ran into a problem though. i forgot to prime my rhodes lifters. what i was planning on doing was cranking the motor without the plugs in while turning the oil with a drill. is there anything wrong with doing this? secondly, does the oil pump shaft turn clockwise or counterclockwise. easy to find out but i might as well ask. thanks. derek.

welcome derek. hydrualic lifters usually don't need priming, does rhoads recommend that their's do? they have high bleed rates and I wouldn't think it would matter.
taking the plugs out is a good idea, it is not a good idea to crank over your fresh motor until you get oil pressure. first use the 5/16" hex tool and turn clockwise. have a valve cover off so you can see when you have oil pressure. good luck and post back with how you liked these lifters.
