Angry starter engagement

i am the proud owner of a 98 renger 3.0 5spd truck i have a proble that has me scratching with key on or the truck running when i press clutch pedel to the floor the starter will engage and start the truck if not running or run up against he flywheel if it is running ps this is a canadian modle with day time runnig lites any ideas would help tks

My guess is the ignition switch. Basically it sounds like the ignition switch is in the start position even though you have it in the run position. By depressing the clutch you are closing the clutch switch and turning on the starter.

Sounds like the ignition switch is out of adjustment, or broke. If the ranger is like the big trucks, the ignition switch is mounted on top of the steering column, under the dash. On the full size trucks, you just loosen the steering column and drop it down enough to get to the switch. The switch mount is slotted, so the switch can move up and down. If you get a new switch, it will have a locking pin installed to center the switch, and then after it's installed, you remove the pin and it's ready to go.
