The winch we have is, lets jsut say, over the hill. Well, it broke the die cast case. Guess we shouldnt use a 1000 lb winch to winch up a 5500 lb. truck. Oh well, back to dream land.

harbor freight...20 bucks, fo something like a 10,000lbs come-along. not bad, and if it breaks, you can take it back....although i know something like that breaking is not what you want happeneing...especially if youre running it.

so do you, uh....msn messege??

yes sir I do. heck 20 bucks ain't bad at all. But I agree, I don't wanna be the one running it if it breaks.

Email me through the forum, and I'll get back to you, if you want.

i welded the spiders on both of the 44's that are in my jeep, and i've been wheelin it for almost a year like that. the turning radius does suck, but you can rid that with some hydraulic help, you can't beat the traction though, and i've done some of the hardest trails in the SE and haven't blown up the spiders yet. i've broken axles, yes, but everything else is still intact. its cheap, easy, and if you have manual hubs, there are really no other drawbacks except for the turning thing IMO

ahh where to begin...

I've always had a motto that "If you have to ask ANY questions about a lincoln locker, it's not for you"

Offroad, there is nothing that can even come close to the bang for the buck. On road? well, you shouldn't have your hubs locked in going down the road anyways.

I welded the diffs front and rear in my broncoII last summer, it made it wheel better than I've ever seen a rig on 31's ever do. Turning radius? sure, it cut it down, but it was still shorter than anyJeep in the club.

breakage? lots of it, but putting 270HP through a dana28 is asking for it anyways.

I'm so impressed at how well it worked in my BII, that my F-150 will be getting one up front this summer.

Now, onto the facts, anyone that says "you can just unlock one hub, and its like a open diff" is a damned fool there is NOTHING that handles/drives/turns worse than a 3wd truck, I garantee that.

What to weld?
If you toss some bead in the corners of the spiders with your 110Vac miller, its going to break, and when it does, it will take bearings with it. Welding all the spiders together works, sometimes. You still have the weak link of the crosspin, the same issue you have with a minispool.
The proper way is to weld the spiders to each other, and then to the carrier.

If you do it wrong, you will be one of the uneducated people bitching about how bad a lincoln locker is, and how you are nothing unless you have a ARB.

Do it right, and you will be one of the few who can go out wheeling, and not care about breakage, because you have enough cash to buy moly axles and CTM's, at the same time you can be laughing at your buddy with the maxed out credit card and leaking air lines.

Good luck.

i beg the differ, it is ALAYS better to ask questions, you didnt just know the answer to something one day, it didnt come to you in a dream, you had to ASK somoen about it. you can never say if you need to ask a question its not the right thing for you, i know that linclon locker causes a lot of pressure on everything, you may break when you run small axles. but hey, you know why i know that, because i asked someone about it. i guess you just kinda hit a nerve with that satement, i believe you will never knwo anything unless you ask, so for all of you out there who want to know somehting about anything....trust me, ask someone, it will cost you mush less in the long run, and someone will always be willing to help you out. so ya.....just had to vent about that a little, cause i think any question is worthy of asking......sorry red_rocket, i just didnt really like that statement, dont wanna start a war though.

Actually, I loved that statement.

I hear what your saying Idio.....but that up there is my exact saying too. Its because its way easy to screw allot up if you don't have it down...among other things. That whole post was great, Rocket.

Watch out for the retaining bolt on the pin. Sometimes they like to break. Turn the ring gear to where you can see the pin, and see if you can get it out without removing the carrier. If you can get it out without removing the carrier, you'll be in good shape, as this will cut your time down to about an hour. If you have to remove the carrier, replace the shims on the exact side they came from.
