Exhaust bolt

I have a 1997 4x4 4.6 126000 miles. The exhaust mantifold
bolt that goes to the exhaust system rusted into. Has any one
had this problem.

I own a 2003 but it seems like I have seen this issue before on this forum.

I would like to tack on an additional question.

Assuming this may eventually happen in my 2003, what sort of maintenance would prevent this from happening?

Should I dab some grease on the bolts (if so, what sort of grease)? Should I hit it with a bit of WD40 every so often?

Or does the rusting happen on the treads and there is little that I can do to prevent the rusting?

You might try finding some stainless steel bolts. The grease or WD-40 will burn off due to the high temps.

drench the rusted bolt with either wd40 or some liquid wrench and wait at least 20 minutes then b4 you try to turn it loose give it a couple of medium type taps on top of the bolt then slowly turn with gradual increasing strength.

Thanks for the info... I didn't think about the high temps in that area. Guess I will just hope for the best.

Exhaust bolts rusting on 1997 F150 4x4. I could not get the
exhaust bolt out of the exhaust mantifold, the only way to do
this is to take the mantifold off the head and take it to machine shop.

Usually (if you have access to the bolt) heating the manifold with a torch will usually help to get it loose. These newer vehicles are built with everything packed so tight, you may not be able to get a torch in there without burning up something else.
