hey guys, i have an 84 460 in a f-250 all stock parts except 3" exhaust (no headers yet) but i'm looking at getting a new cam,
any suggestions?
i know i need to get a new unretarded timing set but i want the engine to have a lope in the idle and its used as an everyday driver so i need something that's dependable, it will soon have a 750cfm edlebrock carb with a performer intake and good headers
also, how hard is it to install yourself in your garage when the installer has pretty much no experiance in this field?
one other thing, is my cam a mechanical or hydraulic? and what is the difference between the two?
looking at comp cams, they have hydraulic roller, flat tappet and just hydraulic cams, which of these would suit my needs?
thanks a whole bunch for the input

Crane Cams part number 353941. This is a hydraulic cam. It says it has a "Good Idle", but with the proposed modifications, it should lope it up a tad. If you want it to lope, just turn the idle down, to just above stalling (in gear), and it should lope pretty decently. It won't sound like a pro stocker, but it should lope decently. If you are unsure of how to install it, leave it to a mechanic, and ask if you can watch and learn.
