Question Engine Block Pre Heater

I really need some help!!!!!
I just bought a 2000 7.3 F-350 Dually Diesel. It has been getting pretty cold where I live so I have been plugging it in at work were the truck stays parked for 8-10 hours at a time. I am catching a lot of hell from the manager because she thinks it is pulling too much electricity. Could anyone help me find out how much it really is pulling. I can't imagine that it is going to be that much. My personal elecetric bill hasn't changed. Any help would be great...Thanks!! S~

1000 watts at around 8.3 amps. It does pull some pretty serious juice. I sure as heck didn't like the last electric bill I got, and next month is gonna be worse...

Hope this helps,
Terry

get cost down use a timer

I looked around and found a web calculator that figures a cost for a given appliance. Here is the link http://www.webwinder.com/wwhtmbin/jelectri.html

I used *******o's numbers and plugged them in using my electric rate. It came up to 72 cents per day based on an 8 hour day. If you were to use a timer and cut it to three hours it would be 27 cents per day.

Be up front with your boss and tell him/her that you don't know what it costs and ask to see a copy of the power bill so you can calculate it out. Show him your work and your result and perhaps propose to use a timer. The boss will probably quit complaining when he finds out it is minimal compared to the rest of the power bill.

It's a lot simpler than that. Do the math.

Check your power bill. It should have your cost/kwhr. Around here, it's usually $0.06-$0.08 /kwh

Most commercial/industrial facilities (high-use) get a break

1 kwh = KiloWattHour = 1 KiloWatt for 1 Hour

1000 w = 1kw

Assuming $0.07/kwh:

(8 hrs/day)*(1kw)*($0.07/kwh) = $0.56 per 8 hr day.

Leave it plugged in for the last 4 hours of the day, and it's about 2 bits per day. BFD

So they are all about 1KW?

That explains why it heats the block up so quickly. Just be glad you aren't in Maine, highest energy costs in the nation in 2002. I pay about $.14 /Kwh!!
