So I have been thinking about an engine swap for a while. I have a 2000 6.8l 4x4 with about 190,000 miles. She runs pretty well. I don't pull much, use it as a family truckster for the most part. I can get a good deal in a 24 valve Cummins. I have been kicking it around and it is about time to have to pull the trigger if I want to do it.
Do I really NEED it? Nope, but it would be cool. My V-10 is pretty decent, probably could use a freshen up. Some exhaust work the normal stuff. One minute I am all for it, the next I am all it is too much work, too much money, to much whatever.
I need some help. Help me make a decision. I am not looking for a diesel vs. gas fight. Just an honest discussion. Pros and cons of it.
I know gas is cheaper now. Parts are cheaper for gas.
Diesel makes stupid power, probably better mileage. Bio-diesel is abundant now a days.
Let the fun and games begin.
It would be interesting to see you do it. I think more and more people may opt to do this as the years roll by. The v10 is a good engine, obviously I own one as you can see in my sig.
But as fuel prices rise, people might want better mileage. A swap like this could extend the life of these rigs.
Go for it, I would totally subscribe to the build thread.
Thanks for the input so far. I guess I should have posted. With my work I have a month off at a time. My buddy has a shop with a lift and all that stuff. I can make it work financially. Just when I am ready to go that little voice in the back of my head makes me stop. I love driving my truck and would go insane with the down time. Then I think of a twin turbo system whistling down the road and I get goose bumps.

Honestly, since you're asking for pro's and con's of just the 24 valve, in my opinion you should post up in the 7.3L PSD forum. There's quite a few guys in that forum that know about the 24 valve, what it takes to run in a Blue Oval, and the pro's and con's of doing said mod.
