Electric Fan Clutch

I have a little trouble getting my truck to warm up when it gets really cold (-30 and below) and am thinking that if I replace the standard fan clutch with a electric one I could keep the fan from spinning while the truck is idling till it gets warm.I have been looking for a while now and I haven't been able to find a electric fan clutch for my 96 F-350 Reg cab 4X4 long box. I'm not sure I want to go with electric fans because of some of the loads I pull but am not sure because I don't know how much air the stock fan moves. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

at thoes temps i don't think if you wrap it with a blanket LOL! it would warm up just at idle is your EBPV (exhaust back pressure vavle) still hooked up you could do a chip with a high idle

Don't laugh but yes I have a blanket I lay across the hood when its at the house and have the tuck plugged in to help it start a little easier. as for the EBPV I have it on manual control, (the throttle control and cable for a lawn mower works pretty well). I tried moving the fan with the engine off at -40 one time while wiating for the battery charger to do its thing and it felt like it was engaged but I know it was the cold that was causing it.

There used to be a electric clutch available for ~$700, but it is no longer made.

Some guys run their trucks in the winter without the fan and fan clutch. Take it off, at those temps you will not miss it abit and gain 30hp to boot.

Yep unless you haul heavy or snow plow a lot I would take it right off. If you have a manual trans you would probably even be fine plowing and towing with the fan removed. I have done it a few winters just not when I have a plow on my truck which doesn't happen often.

Take it off, also idling does no good as if your EGT's arn't atleast 350 or higher, find an AIC t get your RPM's up while sitting, usually over at Ebay.....

Also you must remember that in a coolant system its generally the Thermostat that determines warm up along with mass of the engine/coolant. But the fan moving really cold air over the outside of the engine doesn't help.
