need steering column

guys,

I need a complete and functional steering column for my 67/69 project. It needs to be compatible with the C6 auto tranny and the bendix steering gear. I want one that has functional horn and blinker returns.

I've got the one from the 69, but I completely tore it apart trying to remove it, and the horn parts didn't work anyway. I've also got the 67s in the truck now, but it seems just a bit long (67 was a manual steering truck) and it's horn/blinker returns don't work.

What years/configurations can I use?

The project is a 67 body on a 69 f250 chassis with FE/C6 and bendix steering unit.

Most years 67-79 should work, trucks with P/S have a little shorter column. It may necessary to fix the signal and horn systems if you can not find a column in operating condition. Columns had the wiring different in the newer trucks. I do not know when the change came but would think it was about 73 on. It is close but the wire colours are a little diferent, not a big deal if you are patient and comfortable withh wires. I am not so had a friend do it, it took about 5 minutes.

I think it would be easier to repair what you have. Horn and turnsignals are easy fixes. The t/s switch is a service part and easily replaced. Bolt it in, run the wires down the column. Make sure you have the correct YEAR switch for what year the cab is. The wiring is different between years and lights will not work correct. Been there.

As for horn not working, it was probably the brass wiper contact. Simple fix also. Pull wheel, insert new wiper contact and put wheel back on.

This will probably make your column good as new. A few hours work and bolt it back in.

I have a tilt unit from a 79 Bronco in my 67 F-250 2wd and I made a column for my 68 F-100 2wd from a 76 F-100 4x4 column. I'm 6'5" and don't have a lot of room in the 67-72 body style so I took the 76 column and took 4 inches out of it to make it a little closer to the dash and MAN!! is that better! If you want to go tilt, most boneyards don't know a 2wd tilt is the same as a 4wd tilt so they are cheaper.
