78 F250 SC duel tanks. went out to start it the other day and wouldn't fire off. There was no fuel getting to the carb, with starter fluid in the carb it will run. I started chasing it back and the lines are dry all the way back past the tank selector valves. The gas gauge works correctly for both tanks and I do use both of the tanks without issue.
My question is, does the fuel pump pull fuel forward all the way from the tanks or should I expect to have fuel gravity fed to a certain point in the fuel lines?
It had been running well up to that day. I did try replacing some of the rubber fuel lines but they all look fairly new so I don't think there is a collapsed line anywhere. I blew air through the metal lines from the tank selector valve to the fuel pump. I have a new fuel pump ready to install and should I just replace the fuel pump or any other ideas?
Fuel has to be pulled from the tanks as the sending unit and fuel sock go in from the top of the tank. Take the line off at the pump and pressurize the fuel tank to see if fuel comes out... not too much pressure, the tank will expand!
Mine had run not long before I got it and then it wouldn't. The fuel sock was clogged with rust...
