spare tire question

Why are some tires located on the tailgate and some on the inside. My 90 xlt has it mounted in the cargo area inside the truck. Just curious why ford did that.

thanks Mike

Hmmmm...
Mounting on inside takes away storage from owner, is inconvenient, and most importantly...is very cheap.

Mounting carrier on outside frees up cargo area, is more convenient, and costs more money.

Car companies pass the cost to you by calling it....

Drum roll please...

a factory option.

BTW, you can buy one in aftermarket for about $120. Buy one in a junkyard (if you can find one) for about $50.

Good Luck.

Very cool. I am not to sure about having a cookout that close to a 25 gallon gas tank though. Might turn out the steaks aren't the only things getting cooked.

if you run a fule line to your grill, you can use gasoline to cook with also, no extra propane or charcole. might be detrimental to your gas mileage.

I have a 96 EB and it has a 32 gallon tank. As far as the tire carrier...I had a K5 with the inside tire and it came loose during a late night offroad run and hit the rear seat passengers! No damage done just more laughs than anything else. My Bronco has it on the outside and that is where I like it.
