hi everyone, i got my front suspension out of my 79 cordoba for my truck and i was wondering if anybody knew about any other place that i can get the x members that i need to mount it. I am trying to finish my truck by june so i have a truck to drive when i get my license and i dont have substantial funds to pay for everything that i need so i was just looking for something a little cheaper!!thanks for any help
Matt
The cross members, etc are available ONLY from Gibbons.
(I don't want to sound harse or unsympathetic, but if the $650. USD for the Gibbons kit is tough for you, you should have looked harder at the "Volare" set up.)
Since you have the donor parts, why not spend the next few months (while you're saving up for the Gibbons kit) dismantling, derusting, rebuilding and painting them?
Ferguson is right. You are going to need more than $650 before everything is hooked up. You better plan on a grand before a Cordoba IFS rolls down the street. The details ad up fast on any IFS though. Your donor is 25 years old. None of the IFS options approach free unless you score an unworn donor that needs nothing but welded in.
hey everyone, i will actually have my front set up ready to put in in about a week so all i need to by are the x members. well i guess i will have to hold off on my paint job until after summer when im gettin in 60 hours a week at work!than i should enough for my paint!!thanks anyway

The budget sets the course for most of us here. You'll soon learn that each step will cost just a wee bit more than initially planned. Personally, I'm a wee bit over double what I intended to spend when I started. Believe us now or believe us later. We got you down for $650 completed Cordoba IFS.
well i have gotten about half way through doing my truck since last august and i think i have only spent in the neighborhood of $1700.00 and thats including both of my trucks so i think that i am doing good so far!!!

Curiosity question....is it possible to install the Cordoba suspension without a crossmember kit, kind of like the 5th Avenue suspension? Not that I'm looking into that possibility because I'm sold on the Volare type, but I don't think I've seen anything on welding in a Cordoba and was just wondering if it's possible to save that $650?
.
Vern, that's an interesting question. I have the Gibbons/Cordoba kit and it's a cast iron ******* for weight. Looks like overkill, trying to stay on the safe side.
I think that part of the appeal of the Gibbons/Cordoba kit is the ability to mount your engine to it instead of to the frame rails. I have no doubt that a 390 or a 460 would live quite nicely on that crossmember.
If a person didn't care about mounting the engine to the crossmember, if they were staying with the bellhousing mounts, you could probably make a crossmember that is lighter but still stiff enough to hold the front-end in its intended geometry.
