I have a 2000 f-150 w/ a 4.6 auto. THe sevice engine soon light just came on so I check the code w/ my scanner and it says Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected. Does any one know what that means. I have noticed a slight exhaust leak so I think that may be the cause. Any help in this question would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
that would be something with your egr valve. the tube that runs from your egr valve to your exhaust manifold might be clogged up as it is common on fords. i have the same problem with mine, just havent gotten around to fixing it.
Thanks rebel_ford4x4 for the info. I just checked all the flanges and exhaust manifolds. I thought maybe a exhaust leak would cause the light. thanks again for your reply.
Code is very rarely egr vavle .more than likely it is the dpfe sensor for the egr valve.could also be special silicone hoses to dpfe valve.hoses should be on one of the manifolds.they go from manifolds to dpfe sensor. I'm a auto tech. this is most common on all ford vehicles that use this setup for egr system. hope this helps out.
The egr valve is mechanical. they are either stuck open or diaphram is leaking.both are easy to check.the ses light will come on if ecu or eca as it is sometimes called , detects malfunction in egr system.egr consists of ecu, wiring ,dpfe sensor, egr vavle and vacuum system. any one of these could cause ses light to come on.the most common malfunction is the dpfe sensor. it looks at pressure in exhaust to see when to activate the egr system. if sensor is bad it will turn on ses light and set codes. hope this somewhat explains the codes.
