I posted here about a month ago about my air bag warning light on the dash staying on all the time. I got it tested, and it was traced to a failed GEM module.
OK, that should be covered by Ford Restraint System warranty of 5 years, right?
Wrong. The service manager insisted that my basic warranty expired after 3 years, thus I would have to pay for the repair.
I told him the Restraint System warranty is 5 years.
NO!
Then he said the problem was probably caused by a water leak on the driver side cowl panel, causing a short.
In the first place, there is NO proof I have a water leak.
The FACT is, I have a failed GEM module, which should be covered by Ford warranty.
I contacted Ford Motor Co. and they are investigating the matter.
Right now I'm so ticked off, I'm seriously considering buying a Chevy truck.

Remeber that just because you have a bad service rep doesn't mean that Chevy is any better in that department. There are bad apples regardless of the orchard.
Sometime you have to press the issue and enlighten the morons.
Had a problem like that once..went to a different dealer with a great service manager..End of problem.Covered with no questions..Food for thought..If you really want to see what electrical problems are all about? by all means..Buy the Chevy..
You should take this to another (higher) level. The module should fall into the extended restraint system coverage. If you do have a leak, I sure you would have noticed.
BossHawg what year is your truck?
I didnt think the GEM had anything to do with the airbags.
The airbag system uses it's own module.
Any idea how they came to the conclusion that it needs a GEM? Any trouble codes?

You will generally get that code if you have a blown fuse or maybe a bad conenction at the Restraint Control Module or the module itself could be bad.
Did they write down the actual code they retrieved?
Racerguy,
No, they did not write down the code they received. But I just received a phone call from Ford Motor Co. They will contact the dealer and they are going to fix it under warranty.
I guess that proves, you should always go to the top (or in this case, Dearborn).
Thanks to all of you for your help, and allowing me to vent.
I can't believe I even entertained the thought of buying a Chevy.
It must have been temporary insanity.
Thanks to all of you!

With a little theropy and some hipnosis, I believe that we can rid you of your Chevy demons!
I got close to that once, so I took a 2x4 and whapped myself in the head with it a few times, straightened me right up. Instead of seeing stars, I saw blue Ford ovals floating around every where. Then, when I came to, all had been forgotten about that whatchcallit brank truck.
