Ok guys.... not sure why my truck is doing this. Whenever I step on my brakes with a little more pressure than normal (not an extreme amount, but enough to stop the truck pretty quick) The brakes lock up and i hear a ticking or clicking noise coming from the dash underneath the steering column. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Or why my brakes should lock up all the time? Brakes shouldnt lock up as quick as they do on my truck. Any help is appreciated
Bet $10 to a dime you have rear ABS only (XL package). The ABS will make a ticking sound under the dash. Are you SURE your REAR tires are locking up? If so, then sounds like your ABS might not be working properly.
My hunch is it is all OK and everything is working fine.
Beau,
Sounds like your ABS is working fine. You need new tires?
But...it could be brakes. If you are comfortable checking/replacing brakes, pull everything off and check them. Pads and shoes are not expensive at all.
How many miles on your truck? Still have OEM brakes?
How many miles are on the tires? Do you have the original Goodyear tires still?
The ticking says you are passed lock-up on the rear and have gone on to lock up the front. I can do the same without a lot of effort. It doesn't happen all that easily/often, but you can do it without mashing the pedal thru the floor.
Anyways, I'd look close at tires.
Let is know what you find out.
Thanks!
I have the same problem...but only when its wet out...most people I have talked to say it happens to them to. I was told its normal for ABS on light trucks, since when they are empty they are empty they are fairly light
