I'm new to this forum, but it looks like you can really get some good information from here so I decided to join. My question concerns swapping a 86 F-150 4x4 front end with an F-250 front end. I own an 86 F-150 4x4 and would like to make the swap if possible. It has the stock 302 EFI, and auto w/ OD. Are there any serious mods and would this really be a recommended swap? Thanks for the help.
I assume you want to swap suspensions, right? Basically making your 150 a 250. If so, you need to swap the rear also, preferably form the same truck, they need to at least have the same differential ratios. Other than that, if the front end of the 250 is a straight axle, you will need the leaf springs and related hardware, ie. hangers and such. If it is twin I beam, everything should swap. You will need to use the speedo gear from the same 250 to get an accurate reading, +- tire size.
Is it worth it? not in my opinion. Let me rephrase that,
I wouldn't do it to mine. Instead, I'm looking for a 250 king cab 4wd to replace mine.
If you're only talking about sheet metal, fenders, grill, it's a bolt on.

Thanks for the reply, after reading it I think I agree with you and it's not worth it. I'll just look for a 250. I love my 150, got it from my dad after many years of service, and I just wanna do some things to it. Thanks again Tim
A 4x4 F-250 front end it not compatible (ie not bolt on). an f-150 frame does not have the shackle eyes in the front.
The swap I would recommend would be a high-pinion Dana 44 straight axle from a 78-79 f-150/bronco. They have kits to do it, but you can do it yourself with a little measuring.
