does anyone have any information or advice on front end swaps on 67-72 4x4's ? I have a 72 f-250 4x4 , front end is shot , no parts available for rebuild. I also have a 74 f-250 4x4 with power assist steering and disc brakes , would 74 axle assembly swap into the 72 ? I was told the power assist fronts were not the best but I have and would like to make use of it if not to much of a pain. thanks , mike
This should be a do-able swap, assuming the gear ratio is the same. You want to make sure you have the front and rear gears matched. I cannot recall if the spring perch from 67-72 were the same width as the 73-79 series, but you can get your tape measure and figure that part out. As for your old unit, what is shot? There are plenty of new and used parts out there for a Dana axle. I assume you have the light duty Dana 44.
I've had the truck to several allignment shops and am told the kingpins are pretty bad, drivers side to be specific. Have had no luck at all finding replacement parts for this front end , light duty dana 44 . both the front ends I have are 4:10 ratio's , I believe the front end from the 74 is a dana 60 but not sure. I am going on information given by previous owner.
