Repair Places

I took my truck up to tires plus cause they have free alignment checks. I figured that I could have them check it, cause I was feelin a pull to the left. The guy told me that if they found anything wrong, I would have to have them fix it. That sounded a little shady. Can they do that, give a free check, and then make you have it aligned?

No. I would believe that would fall under false advertising or something else stupid. I would venture to say that the genius you spoke with was lying to you and he wanted you to go away.

I would have told him:
"You advertise a FREE alignment check so Once you check it out ...we'll discuss repairs".

You're going to force them to give you the "free" check and then you're going to believe what they tell you? Go to a good shop, pay them for an alignment and drive away with a job you can trust. With "free" services, you usually get what you pay for.

I was just gonna do it out of principle now, they are supposed to be one of the more reputable shops in my area. Although, I have to admit I don't know about many of the small shops because I do all my work myself, well the stuff that I can do myself

Actually the shop is perfectly correct. What did you expect them to do, spend there time working on someones truck for free while they could be working on another vechicle for money.

I bet if you tell them you wont go with those rules, they would charge you a fee for checking your alingmnent.

It is just like the dish-washer repair man, he charges a service fee to come to your house and tell you what is wrong with your dish-washer. If you decide to have him fix it, then he waives the service fee. If you decide not to let him fix it, then you must pay the service fee.

I hope this helps to clear it up for ya!!

It is one thing to do it , but another to come right right out and tell people what is going to happen.

After I took re-did the steering & suspension on my Mustang, I knew I needed an alignment right away.
I make an appointment at this specialty shop to get it done as they had a coupon for an alignment at $14.95 for a 2 weeks period.I never mentioned the recent work I had done.

I took the coupon and car up there at 7:00 am they brought the car in and next thing I know they hand me the keys , then asked me if I had a secret camera on my filming this.

I said: Why do you say that ?

He replied:" Because the alignment was bang right on.
I think you are filming this to try and catch me in a lie about your car requiring an alignment.

I asked him if he would have tried to sell & replace parts that were needed if in fact the alignment is off.

He replied," I don't need to hustle people for work"
We have a reputation to uphold.
Of course if it did need something we would have let you know exactly what is was, what that part did & show you how bad it is.
There is no way that I would have let them do the work if it needed it and he Didn't Expect i t

I told him, I'll be back with my truck then, How about Tomorrow??

He told me I would have to wait 10-15 days as his appointment was full.

I really appreciate Honest Businessmen doing an honest job with no other expectations.

Places that do GOOD WORK don't need scams to drag in the unsuspecting.

Actually, he may be right. At NTB, we used to advertise "FREE alignment check!".

That eventually gave way to "If we check and it doesn't need to be done, then there's no charge"

However, if they're advertising free checks, then look at the fine print. NTB does "free checks" in the sense that if it needs to be done, then you're willing to pay for it, but if it's ok, then there's no charge.

I can tell you from firsthand experience that nothing ruins your day faster than customers asking for their free work. It's a waste of time and 99% of the people who come in don't need to get anything done. But they're still determined to get their freebies.
