Usually the Speed sensor would create weird shift patterns also. Is the truck shifting at the correct points? The pre 96 E4OD had problems mainly with the t/c and the selonoid pack on the side of the tranny. Fix your o/d light, or just check the computer for codes, and if you will know then, either selonoid pack or t/c. If it is neither of them, i would go for the accumulator cylender rebuild for 1-2 shift.
