Headers and dual exhaust, your thoughts...

I have an 88 F-150 w/ 302 and AOD tranny. Has 80,000 miles on it now, and I plan on keeping it for quite a while yet (maybe forever). I am getting about 16 mpg on the highway and 14 in town if I drive real easy. A little bit of wind or hills on the highway and it's down to 12.

Would headers and dual exhaust help my mileage enough to be worth it? I'm thinking of ceramic coated long tube headers and 2 1/4" duals w/good performance mufflers. I already have a cracked manifold that needs to be replaced, and love the sound of dual exhaust as well. No emission laws here either...

Appreciate any thoughts, comments, or experience with the same. Thanks!

The only problem with runningduals on a 302 you are going to need to relocate the o2 sensor in the new tubeing.

i dont think he'll neccesarily need to relocate the o2 sensor. i recently got true duals put on my truck and they didnt need to touch the o2 sensor because 02 sensor is before where the pipes would come together on factory exhaust.

and yes the duals would help with gas mileage, but trust me, it actually reverses that. i get worse gas mileage cuz im always revving my truck up now and flooring it when i go between guardrails or anything it can echo off of.

ps: tim, you have one of the sweetest trucks ive ever seen.
