My 04 (7/03 build date) has the blanket. My 02 Harley F150 did not. There has been some speculation that many of ford's hoods have paint blistering problems due to excessive heat from lack of shields. Also the hoods are aluminum (at least on the f150, not sure about f250)
I think I have to argue with my dealer first, since every truck had insulation when I ordered last November 6, 2003
" Look, when I came into to order this truck, all of the trucks which were shown me had the inulation on it; this truck was clearly represented as having that insulation blanket on it. That representation was an influence on me in my decision making process to buy the truck. Your display examples on the lot, had it. Therefore, I should not now have to pay to have the item added to the truck, when its presence on all the lot samples had it. By the way, any subsequent decision by Ford has no relevancy to the promotion made by Ford and this dealership at the time I ordered the truck. "
Something along this line may well help out. Of course, said in a very calm and composed state will also help. You may have to be abit agressive, though.
Just a Thought..........on.............My Perceptions.........

Just got lucky today. My freind has a 99 F550 PSD and the turbo hose blew off in 99 and cut the hood insulation. They gave him a new insulation assy., which he threw in his barn for the last 4 years. He said to get it out of his hair because he was too lazy to change it. I offered to take the old one because it had a 1" nick in it, but he said it would look better if I had a new one! The box does not include the retainers, but NAPA has the for $4.69 per bag of 10. Needed 13. Part # for the insulation was: F81Z-16738-AA (sorry no price)
Now all I need is the glove box light to shut me up!

Also helps deaden noise as well. Stupid to me that they do away with the PI and then the blanket. Maybe they are trying to drowned out the other noises this thing makes, droan, air box flutter, etc....
