ignition timing

Manual I have says for my motor 351M W/ AC timing marks are to be viewed from the left and not the right. Called a mechanic he says he never heard of this for a ford motor. Anyone know?

bubba...,

The ignition timing (BTDC/ATDC) is read from the passenger side of the motor (at least that's where I always take readings) near the pulleys.

Your manual might be referring to where the timing marks appear relative to the pointer. The left edge of the pointer is the reference point, not the right edge.
