Hey guys, I'm a lurker for about a month - and thanks to you all I took the plunge and bought a new Black 04 CC Lariat a couple of days ago. Love it so far and have a question regarding the Predator.
Coming for a 03 F150, the throttle response and pedal step - in seems pretty soft and slow to respond. ( I understand it takes a bit for the turbo to spool up.) Does the Predator help with the slow spool up and slow speed throttle reponse?
I did read most of this thread and didn't see anything really mentioned about this, even though it seems to be a common complaint among 6.0 owners.
For any of you that have tried the Superchips Tuner as well - is it any better for this than the Predator? Thanks much for any info.
PS- you guys were very instumental in my puchase ! Great site.
The Predator helps some but does not completely eliminate it. Disconnecting the EGR helped mine some. Teh more you drive it the less you notice. The 6 doesn't really start to rock n roll until you get the rpm's up over 2K or so. Can't respond to the SuperChips ?.
A suggestion, check your coolant level when hot and lower to min mark while hot or you will end up with white spots all over your engine compartment. My early 04 has a different coolant recovery tank that mine friends two week old 04 but his already puked some coolant and made marks before he could get it to my house to drain it down. Also go back and make them put in a hood blanket.
Congrats on the truck you will love it and you WILL love it even more with some mods. BTW, is it 4x4 or 2x4?

derek witt - I have owned a 6.0 for almost a year now and can tell you that after you drive the truck for a while you probably won't notice the petal or turbo lag because you get used to it and change your habits a little. It was harder for me to get used to the steering than the other. Now the only time I notice the petal being soft is when I drive my car for a couple of weeks and leave the truck in the garage. The first time you hook on and pull something you will be amazed!

Talk about getting used to something, I never drive my truck without the trailer, the other day I did, and to me the thing jumped out form underneath me. To me, ZERO turbo lag.
The thing is land missile

It is all matter of perspective
See! W've been trying to get you to unleash your monster. As good as thry are towing, they are even better for eceryday driving!
derek, regarding the dead pedel issue, Mine does it too but I think is is something you will get used to. The 6.0 doesn't have a direct link via throttle cable to your foot. It is all connected by computer. In fact it doesn't have a throttle body. It is all controled by fuel injection and the vanes in the turbo housing. The PCM learns your driving style. After 5 cold starts and 300 miles it should be most of the way there but it never quits learning. Sometimes if you get a glitch, reboot the PCM by disconnecting the batts. This may help some. The Predator helps a lot.
Right now the Predator is superior to the SuperChips, The differences are, More power,(check the dyno sheet on my gallery), SC won't publish their dyno sheets. Fewer complaints, (SC is new) Updates are available from Diablo via download(you have to send the SC in). Also other goodies are available such as a real time data viewer for your PC and a 2 way PC interface that will allow you to save your real flash to disk.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like the Predator is in my future - maybe after the first couple of tanks. Is any tuner better for whatever reason in regards to EGT's ? Seems like you all have positive things to say about the Predator's ability to keep the nasty EGT's down.

The Predator has 3 modes. 45 HP tow mode, 65 HP Performance/economy mode, 100 HP (KILL!) Performance mode.
I have not noticed any EGT over 850 deg post turbo. I keep mine in the 65 HP mode and around town, the temp is around 400 deg. On the hwy at 80 MPH cruise it is 610 Deg. A full throttle burst to 100 MPH will get it up to 810.
Mine has stock exhuast and a K&N FIPK.
Did you check my dyno sheet? This truck really rocks!
Thanks Bob, I did look at your dyno #'s- impressive! I have heard of the 1300 degrees range as being the danger zone when the pyro is mounted pre.(I think) What does your post pyro translate into when the danger zone is ?

For me, the danger zone is somewhere above 850 degrees taken 1 1/2 in. from the turbo flange. I say this because I have never seen above 850 deg with the stock tune running 3300 RPM without the speed limiter. This 850 should translate across the turbo 1250. The people on this forum that have probes on both sides say there is a 400 deg drop across the turbo. There may actually be less since most pre turbo probes are installed in the manifold which should be hotter than at the turbine inlet.
