programmers vs chips

i am interested in either putting a chip in my computer or using the programmer. which one will give me the better performance? i am not looking for huge horsepower gains but to increase my fuel economy.

Why not go the route of a performance air intake and exhaust system first?

What year truck to you have? If it's 99+ then you can go with the Diablp Predator programmer. It has a program in it for fuel economy. If you are running a 94-97, then your best option is to probably go with a chip. I'm currently using a Superchips tuner on my 97 and I can say that I've hardly seen an improvement in MPG's. Before I had the Superchips, I was running a Diablo Delta and my MPG's were alot better. Had to dump it becuase I was having connection problems and my truck would die when I hit a large pothole or bump.

Generally, a mild burn (chip or programmer) of 50-70hp will yield a slight increase in milage. Usually 1-2mpg, some people claim as much as 4mpg. All of the off the shelf mid power programs will yield approximately these same results. With milage being the primary concern IMO your best bet would be a custom calibration on a chip.

If you are anything like me. Chip / programmer - more HP, which means heavier foot on the pedal. Whatever increase in my mileage was negated by my heavy foot.
