97 F 350 460 OBD 1 or 2?

I have a 97 F350 460. I always assumed it was OBD II but today I looked for the daata port and can not find one anywhere in the cab. There is the old EEC test port under the hood by the drivers side hood hinge. Were some or all of these trucks still OBD 1?

I thought that everything was OBDII by '97, but I could be wrong I suppose.

Some of the F-250s and F-350s were still OBD-I in '97. Most that were OBD-II were CA trucks.

It is not a California truck I bought it it new in Utah. It is speed density. I have looked everywhere for a OBD2 plug and cant find one anywhere. Where exactly would it be if I had one? The emision sticker under the hood does not say OBD anywhere. What is the way to tell for sure? Why would it not have to be OBD2? Did the government give exemtion to HD trucks?

yea since it's a 350 they were able to keep from going to obd2....same with airbags...but since it has speed density then it's the old style. OBDII connector is under the drivers side of the dash panel...law states that you must be able to access it in the drivers seat. hope that helps.

My '97 F250HD's owner's manual details the differences between the OBDI and OBDII systems, because the trucks with a GRVW of 8800lbs or higher were not required by federal law to have OBDII, so they basically used the same setup as the OBDII system but deleted things like the after-cat O2 sensor.

I didn't know that they also used a different connector, though. I will have to look for mine.

I don't have a 97 F-350 with a 460 but I do have a 96 of that model. In mine there is no OBD anything but rather the Ford EECIV (I think that is what it is called). The connector (actually there are two) is on the drivers side under the hood up high on the wheel well.

Everything was supposed to change over to OBDII in 1996 but I guess there were some exemptions for tanks like a 460 F-350. Mine was a very early in the model year (actually late 95). I don't know when they switched over to OBDII if they ever did until they changed the F250/F350 designs later on.
