POR 15 Engine Enamel Pointers/Help
POR 15 Engine Enamel Pointers/Help
I'm painting my engine with the Por 15 engine enamel.
I preped the engine per the directions and primed with POR 15.
Now this engine enamel is thick stuff and seemed pretty tough to paint with. I put a coat on the sides of the block and I couldn't get it to apply at a uniform thickness, so I tried to apply a thin coat, but you just can seem to paint this stuff on too thin. Por 15 claims it will only take one coat, but by the looks of it, it will take two.
Has anyone used this? I don't mind the sides of the block looking the way they do, but I'm not about to attempt to paint the heads and intake manifold knowing I'll get these results. All I can think of was the thickness might be due to the temp. It was slightly over 40 degrees when I painted the block.
Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I painted our block last summer and it turned out real nice. It is thicker than most paints, but one coat gave me good results. I used a sponge brush rather than a bristle brush so I didn't have to worry about stray bristles hiding in my paint job.
We don't get that cold of weather down here so that could very well be your problem. Try storing the paint and the part if possible in the house (don't tell your wife I said that) and bring it out when you're ready to paint.
If that doesn't work, then I don't know what the problem could be.
