I've been experimenting with the number of springs on the rear of my 54 f100. Six was good, but maybe just a little too low. So I decided to try seven. It seems a little too stiff even with the new plastic liner material installed. So, I'm going to take out one and go back to six. My question involves the replacing of the bushings where the main spring connects to the shackles. The one on the driver side seems to have a little movement to it from side to side when the axle is removed. The pass side is much more secure. I interpret this as wear in the bushing. How are these bushings removed? Are there any slick shortcuts, or is it just APITA? Special tools? Any light that you can shed on this topic will be appreciated. Thanks, John

are you talking about in the spring itself? if thats the case i used a piece of all thread bar and on one end i placed a large socket piece of pipe whatever ya got that clears the bushing but hits on the the spring eye and on the other end a washer and nut that hits the bushing but not the spring eye then crank away on the nut and it will pull it right out
Here's an easier way to remove them. Find a long socket that is slightly smaller than the spring eye and hit the end that attaches to the ratchet. They will come out like nothing.
If allelse failes use a hacksaw blade and cut a slot in the old bushing and take a small punch and fold the corners over and it should almost fall out.Sometimes its a pain to cut through the rubber .
