If U-Haul is turning down Explorer business, you can bet that the cost of accepting it is higher. The decision isn't an emotional one, it's a financial one. Anyone that's ever seen a product liability case up close knows that the cost of even a single suit can be astronomical, even if your found innocent. We will see lots more of this "shying away from business" in the future as the insurance and business industry try to distance themselves from the "sue happy" segments of the population. It only takes one jackpot award to cancel out all the benefits of doing business.
Last year I tried to rent a car trailer to put behind the wife's expy and u-haul said NO. I then tried several other rental places and they said the same thing. To pull a car trailer I would need a vehicle that weighed over 4500lb and had over 250hp. Thats what they all said. I ended up getting a wrecker to move the car 35 miles and cost me $130.00.
i used u-haul once to move my bro from west Texas to East Texas we get it loaded and get about 10 miles down the road and the check engine light comes on. for i call the number and talk to the guy and ask him what to do about it he ask if it is broke down yet, i say no, and he says no problem then because you no those new fords have them sensors on them. i kid you not, thats what he said. it did later break down. we were a little pissed to say the least.
