are there any other places besides the dealer that i could obtain a front hub assembly, they told me its a dealer only part but theres gotta be some other place i can acquire a good one without all that money going down the drain. ive got a 96 explorer xlt 4dr 4wd if that helps. thank you
That should be easy. I bought a Timken w/sensor, same as factory, for $140 from local parts store. NAPA wanted $280. Average price I've heard is about $170. Shop around.
The bearing does have the ABS wheel sensor mounted on it. This you can purchase seperately. Because of the design, these bearings contain very little grease. That allows the bearings to dry out. These can be greased through the sensor hole with an oversie zerk pressed in. They get noisy before they show any play. Are you replacing a bearing to get rid of an ABS problem? Sounds like a bad idea.
no, im replacing it because the hub is bad and now rattles, the abs light has been on since i got pulled out of the mud when i got stuck in the mud. which also cracked my steering rack, so i think that problem will be solved by doing this. i also have noticed a nice squeaking recently that slows down in pace as i slow down.
just got the new hub and it fixed the abs light, kragen matched and beat autozones price of $175, so i got it for $168, not too bad. thanks for your ideas.
