I have a 1990 f250 with a 5.0liter and a five speed manual trans.Have made a few mods such as a crane powermax cam, shorty headers, true dual exuast. I was thinking of upgrading to 24# injectors when I was told that it already has them from the factory. Can anyone tell me what I have 12# or 24#. The truck has 3.55 gears with 33x12.50R16.5 tires, I would like to find some more power from the motor. Any ideas?
Stock should have 19# injectors. There is no need to upgrade injectors unless your engine needs more fuel, which it shouldn't with no more mods than you have. When you switch injectors, you will have to have a chip made to account for the different amount of fuel injected for the same injector pulse width. Fuel injectors alone will not give you any more power than what you have, they are merely able to support more fuel flow.
I would add that if you want to bolt on 8-12 hp without getting a chip, you could bolt on a BBk throttle body. Their kinda pricy, around $300, but Then, MAYBE you could use an upgrade to the 24# injectors and the chip.
More air helps almost every upgrade! (The chip will help regardless if you add anything). I would run some numbers on your motor before dropping the $$$$ on the injectors (I've seen accel 24# for $220). That's a few dollars to spend and not get to take advantage of.
