I am upgrading all my 2000 Excursion speakers, and I have yet to figure out how to access the 3rd row set of speakers in the back. The are behind the large panel that goes from the back passenger door, to the rear cargo door. Does anyone have any experience removing this panel?
Your just the guy I want to talk too... I'm considering upgrading my speakers to. What size are all the speakers? I know that you've got to remove the entire rear panel to replace the 3dr row speakers. The panels connect with clips but not sure how to remove it. I'd plan on breaking some of the clips and just replacing them with new ones....
On a side note, what brand speakers did you go with and how does it sound?
I purchased The Pioneer TX-A6880R Custom-Fit for Ford and Mazda speakers. They are a 4-way speaker with a Max Power of 240W with a Nominal Power of 50W. It has a Woofer 6X8, Midrange 1-5/8', Tweeter 5/8", and Super Tweeter 3/8". Normally these sell for approx $99 a set, but found them for $54 at Etronics . The reason I upgraded my speaker is because I installed the
Pioneer NAV-SYS910DVD DVD Mobile Navigation System which comes with the Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD DVD Receiver that puts out 50watts. You can see the package installation in my photo gallery. We absolutely love this Nav package. It just so happens Etronics also sells it, and I have found to be the best price on the internet. I paid a lot more at Brands Mart.
As far as the sound, on a scale of 1-10, would give it an 8 for imporvement. It took me about 20 minutes each for the rear row seating. You do not have to completely remove the back panels. Remove the nut for the seat belt on the posts. Then remove the small uppper panel at the seat belt attachment post by gently pulling it our from it clips. Then the large panel, just start pulling it gently from its clips also. You will have to remove the spare tire from the back on the drivers side.
Now a bit about the 2nd row seating. The speaker chambers in these doors do not extend into the passenger doors. It is just a small chamber that is bolted onto the inner panel of the passenger doors. I have found on deep bass sounds they seem to rattle. I am just wondering if there is too much pressure in these small speaker chambers since they are not open to the hollow door. Please give me some feed back on this.
I think I have covered all your questions. If you have anything else to add, just let me know. I will try to help as much as possible.
guys, buy a door panel clip remover. it look like a screw driver with a (Y) tip. about the rattle, put a cut off pcs of dynamat all over the plastic cover. you dont have to put the whole sheet, just 3x3 pcs.
Hey Excursion fans. I just bought a 2001 V10 Limited. I had my Apline V-12 amp powering my Aluminaro 10 inch sub in the back. It was previously in my pick up truck. It sounds great NOW! It is loud just with the sub in the back. They installed the amp underneath the second row seats. I am going to get some MB quartz installed. They said the Excursion takes four 5 x 7 speakers. Two in the door and two in the rear. So once the Apline 4 way amp and MB quartz is installed it should sound even better!
The Excursion uses 6X8" speakers in all locations. I took my Excursion into some audio experts, and they feel as if the speakers are under-powered. In a couple days, they will be adding an amp and Dynamatting the doors. I will let you know how it sounds.
Just for the record, it's 6x8's that fit in the Excursion but 5x7's will work as well. Also, there's 6 speakers. Two in the front door, two in the back doors and two in the rear by the 3rd row seats.
Yes they said either 5x7 or 6x8's. They are going to install the 5x7's. I didn't know about the other two speakers. Anyone want to have a sound war????? Just kidding. I just like good clean music.
Waht is the wattage output from a standard Excursion with premium audio package - i.e. six CD changer, in dash CD, tape etc. Anybody know? I've got a couple of NIB 50W Alpine amps left from the old days that could go to good use. I'm thinking maybe put the amps on the second row seat speakers and upgrade those. Leave everything else alone?
