Hi all, I usually hang out in the Superduty forums but since I bought my wife a '04 Explorer here I am. My question to you is, what size are the speakers in the front and rear doors? The driver side front and back speakers are blown and I need to replace them. So while I have the door panels off I might as well get some good quality speakers and do them all while I am at it. What are the speaker sizes and what would you recommend(brand) to put in there? Thanks.
The door speakers, front and rear, are 6x8s. I've used Polk, Kenwood, and Pioneers in my 04s and my favorites were the Kenwood 4-way speakers. However, the Pioneers are a close second and cost only about 60% what the Kenwoods cost. Plus, the particular Kenwoods I had are no longer available.
Are you referring to the sub-woofer? I seem to remember reading it is a 6.5 inch sub-woofer. There are not a lot of options for it. There was a JL Audio sub that supposedly worked as a drop-in. Tang-Band (TB) makes a 6.5 inch sub-woofer too, but I'm not sure how it sounds in the Explorer. The TB doesn't require much box volume so it seems like it might work in this application.
Thanks Shorod, I knew it would be an odd size but I didn't know it was a sub woofer. I think it's the only bad sounding one and I'ld like to find a new one.
