My 1990 F150 extended cab has front door speakers, but nothing in the rear.
The websites say 5x7 or 6x8 speakers will fit in the rear. I haven't gone back there and taken anything apart yet, but I'm assuming the speakers will go in the side panels behind the doors. Am I right?
I'd like to hear from anyone who added rear speakers to an xcab that didn't have factory rear speakers. How did you cut the panels to accomodate the speakers? Any other installation tips?
What i did for rear speakers was bought a pair of 6x9" boxes and got some Pioneer 6x9" 3 way 220W speakers, sounds excelent in my opinion. I am pretty sure in 1990 and also a supercab had no provisions for rear speakers at all. I'm sure you could cut a hole in the places that you said but i wouldn't go to that much trouble. My boxes are on the rear seatbelted there and it really does the trick. Also yu can always move them if you need the space. Hope that helps
I know this is an old thread, but I was just in this situation with a new to me 1990 supercab f150. Pull the back panels off and you'll be able to see where they had provisions for rear speakers. Do your measurements to find the center of the hole. Put the panel back on, drill a hole and then use a Dremel to cut the hole out using the back mount behind the panel as a template. I ran the speaker wire under the carpet and under the panels to keep it hidden away and tidy. Good luck to everyone that takes this task on. One could also go to junkyards and find trim that already has the cutouts...
