What is considered to be a "good build date"?

Thanks for all your help. If not for the info I have received from this site, I'd be lost. I couldn't get a straight answer from my purchasing dealer.

I may be crazy, but I'm considering letting Ford replace my truck instead of a buyback. There just aren't any comparable trucks to the F450,550.

What date should I look for in a new truck, or is there one established yet?

My informed opinion would be anything later than about 11/20/03, that would have the latest major flash and the "better" injectors. I would make them order the new one so you could get as close as possible to the truck you have.

I may be able to wait a while before I need a replacement. Would you order now or wait a little longer?

What happened on 11/20/03? You are definitely more in the loop than I, but everything Ive heard is that all 04/04s are the same. Again, Ive heard no one with an 04/04 that has had a flash other than the original. And the 04/04s cant use the same program as the 03s. Again, this is information from outside the loop.


Well they must have come up with some other system in the 04/04s then, because mine has something that sounds exactly like it, and a number of other 04/04s Ive heard also. Ive added the sound clip of mine to my signature since this seems to come up quite a bit.

 

I test drove a 03 that was left over when I bought my 04 the other day and it was a lot louder than the 04 I bought. Mine is very quiet. The engine is August 14, 03 build date. I dont know which injectors I have or pilot or no pilot. All I know is I love this truck. I think it might give my Mustang GT a little competition.And I thought my 95 PSD couldnt get any better.

 

seaplane, you're correct unless we don't have the facts.

 

I'm very intrested about the real 04's, If infact thy have pilot injection, all the calif. 04's so far do not have pilot injection working here. And just for the record, you can't tell what ver# flash thy came with.

My comment on the 11/20/03 build was mixing the "new" flashes with the new trucks. I apologize for the mix-up. A true "good" build would indeed be any 04/04. I am waiting on verification now, but it appears to have the best flash from the factory and a different style/method of pilot injection.
