Hey guys, I have an 83 stepside with 3.8 V6-cat-Flowmaster 40 series single in dual out, 2.25". its nice and mellow-but i wanna be heard from a couple blocks away. but the catch is i just paid 300 for the system (coming out the rear) If i cut the Flowmaster and put a y pipe in there, will it seem raspy? or will i get that BIG sound? I can give my flowmaster to my brother. Any info is appreciated
for a v6 im not sure cutting out the flowmaster is wise. unless you like bumble bees. have you tried a highflow cat with tips? that or you could take the cat completely off, your trucks old enough.
ok i had a bronco 2 4x4 with a 2.8 carb and i took the cat off and put the flange that came off of the cat onto my dual outlet flow. it sounded exactly like an 8 especially when you floored it. it sounded fast but if you ever ridden in the older BII then you know they are otherwise. so that is a smaller engine so 1 full liter more would sound good to.actually i know somebody who has a new 3.8 stang with flows and it sounds damn good for a v6 and it has cats. oh yeah i had no pipe after my flow. but people told me they could here me coming for like 2 minutes away. i was about a mile. there was school zones so i had to go slow.
f100guy, your saying you cut out the cat? I wanted to keep my cat and just cut out the muff.(emissions) NJ is gay. and run the pipes out the back. I have an idea of how it'll sound cause i was drivin down a road with my old system and I hit a pot hole and my old p.o.s. muff fell off
ive always heard that if the truck is older than a certain year or didn't come with cats you don't have to run em. i thought the year was 85. maybe im wrong but someone else mentioned that on these boards.
well after a few months...i got bored with my old system...so i took EVERYTHING off and slipped an 18" glasspack on there...HOLY MOLY
it sounds like an 8...a manly 8
