before buying

before i buy a car i usually take it to my mechanic and for 30 bucks he checks it out and tells me if its good or not. i went to look at a straight 6 95 f150 today. it has 100k miles(about 12k a year which is average) and it looks great. the guy is the original owner and took excellent care of it. i test drove it and looked it over and everything is good. the problem is that its about an hour and a half from my mechanic and i don't have time to bring it up to him. whatta you all think of my buying it w/out my mechanic look at it?

id get one of them independant car places to do that your mechanic has a vested interest on you breaking down his livelihood, I look at cars for friends who dont use me to fix their cars cause they get a true unbiased opinion

Buy it. Assuming the price is right.

i feel i get an unbiased review from my mechanic. he's pretty honest. if he finds a problem he always says its something i can fix myself if i have the time.

Depends on the price. i bought a 95 F150 Xcab 4X4 without going over it with a fine tooth comb. but the price was $2000 below book. I know it could have meant BIG problems but it was worth the risk. Look for the obvious and it the price is right BUY IT.

Chris

P.S. it had 204K on the clock

Do a Caefax YOURSELF. If buying from a Dealer get an extended warranty if only for a year or 12,000 Miles.
If Buying From an individual you have little recourse so find the time to get it inspected or do a good enough one yourself. Drive it at least 25 miles at all speeds and spend a good hour under over and in the thing looking for leaks. touching and smelling and looking at every part in under and inside the truck.
