This sunday I am going out to the woods where an old hemi car has sat for years. If all goes well I will have a HEMI to put in the project truck. At this time I am having dillimas if I should do this or not. I mean who doesn't want a hemi powered vehicle? But in a Ford truck? I guess I would like to hear some coments on this. But I will know more( engine size and if it is even there) on sunday.
Thanks
Robert

More than likely the swap wouldn't be worth the work. I doubt you are going to find a 426 in some forsaken Plymouth Superbird - more than likely something in a early '50s DeSoto or Chrysler. I would do some research before going forth - some of these engines are not worth the work to rebuild as it's costly and you won't be making a lot of power without a lot of expensive old school speed parts.
Hellcat has a good point. Coming up in March, at Canton, Tx auto swap meet. There will be two hemi's. Both of which need rebuilding and they are not 426's. May be 413's or the smaller cu. in. 393???? He's been trying to sell them for along time. I think $3,000 for both, plus parts. But they are the older Chrysler Fire Power clad valve covers. I hope the hemi's that you find, is what we all dream about. Never know about that little ol' lady who had a GTX or Superbird stuffed in her garage.....with 3,000 miles on it.
That would be way cool if it was a 426 hemi. But regardless if it were even a 392 or 354 hemi, parts are not cheap. A friend of mine is planning to rebuild his 354 and install it in a 32 Ford. With the horsepower to weight ratio, that Ford roadster should do pretty good. You'll also need to think about a tranny. There are adapters to bolt up T10's to the earlier hemi's. If you get lucky on a 426 hemi (not 426 wedge), you can use the 833 or 727 tranny. I hear more racers are beefing up 904 trannies (lighter tranny).
