so here is the deal. i have a 72 f-100 and when i start it up and try to put it into gear, (its an auto btw) this is what happens. basicly it dosnt go into gear at first. and when there is enough rpms or it has has a chance to warm up. then it will go into gear. and when drive it and come to a stop it does about the same thing and kind of disengages it self and i have to give it alot of gas. so my question is- what will fix this problem, ie... new trani, etc.? please help
I assume this is a C6. It sounds to me like either a pressure problem or an age problem. Change the fluid and filter and see what happens. Let us know.

I would venture to guess that the Tranny fluid is a bit low. Check as per previously instructed and go from there. The tranny could be wore out, too. Especially if it ihas ever been low on Fluid in the past. I nknow I toasted mine Becuase I couldn't afforda good rebuild, and got tired of adding 2-3 quarts a week. Oh well needed a better tranny anyway right? LOL
Sounds like the torque converter is worn/wearing out?
