I have just recently bought a 410 Merc and I want to swap it into my 75 F-150 2wd. I have no clue about this motor and I am open to any suggestiong about re-build and preformance parts.
Post in the FE forum, you'll get more answers there. If your putting it in a 2wd you'll probably want to watch your u-joints and rear end...well that is if your going to "use" it What do you have for an engine now? If you've got an FE you won't have to worry about the bellhousing
Ok I will post in the FE forum... But I do have a 360 in it now, so I know that the swap is easy. I was just couroius mostly about what to do with the re-build, parts wise... Cause I want to be able to "DRIVE" it.
I'm in Bend, OR, and I recently worked a 410 over for my '74 high-boy. There ARE some issues with compression ratio and limited available pistons. John Prehn at Prehn's Machine in Bend did my machine work, so is quite aware of all the "fun" I had. Or if I can give you any insights, I'd be happy to. Main thing, I originally tried to go with 10:1 CR using off-the-shelf Silvolite 1139 buckets, and had major problems with detonation, wound up breaking rings on 3 before I pulled it apart for another build at 9:1 using custom dished Ross pistons. If you want to e-mail me, I'll answer any questions I can, or I'm sure that John would be happy to spin a tale about my woes and the large fortune that it took to get everything right. You might do okay with a higher CR since you've got a lighter truck and probably aren't toting around a slide-in camper, but even with pulling a ski boat you need to look at things pretty close! Steve
